Twitter is once again going after a third-party social platform and restricting part of their API. This time the innocent victim is Tumblr.
According to The Next Web, going forward, Tumblr bloggers will no longer be able to find their Twitter followers on Tumblr. As you can see, the Twitter option has been removed from the contact lookup page on Tumblr:
Obviously, this was a super-useful tool for anyone that was starting up a Tumblr blog and had a decent-sized following on Twitter. I know it was a huge help to me when I got going on Tumblr.
You’ll recall that a little while back Twitter cut off Instagram from a similar friend-finding feature and a little bit earlier, LinkedIn was cut off from allowing its users to auto-post their tweets as LinkedIn status updates.
So my question to you is what’s next? Pinterest? foursquare? You may have noticed that Twitter users recently began being mentioned in foursquare check-in tweets. Is that functionality on the chopping block?
What do you think? Who is Twitter’s next victim? Will this backfire for Twitter?
