2013 Update: The foursquare Halloween badge is back! All you have to do to get your new 2013 badge is check in on to a venue sometime Halloween night and include the shout out “Happy Halloween!”
Original 2012 Post: foursquare announced today that they’ve issued three new badges to commemorate Halloween 2012. The location-based social network was a bit cryptic in their blog post about how to unlock each of the three badges. Here is my best effort at translating their post:
Just Updated for November: Find Out How Many People Use 1,000 of Your Favorite Social Networks, Apps and Digital Services
- Halloween badge #1 can be unlocked now by mentioning “Happy Halloween” in a check-in.
- Halloween badge #2 seems to be some sort of mini-swarm badge that is unlocked by checking in to a place with more than 10 other users checked to at the same time. It is unclear if you have to mention Halloween in your check-in, but might as well to be sure you get your badge.
- Halloween badge #3 is the toughest to figure out. It is clear that it can only be unlocked on Halloween (Wednesday, 10/31), but the foursquare post alludes to taking pictures of the best costumes you see, and since foursquare has made photo check-ins a priority lately, it wouldn’t surprise me if taking a picture had something to do with earning this badge.
That’s all we know about the badges so far. I have seen a few Twitter friends earn the first badge tonight, so that one is definitively live.
I will update this post over the next few days as I hear more about the badges. If you hear more about these badges, please leave a comment below and let us all know!
