Guinness’ St Patrick’s Day digital marketing mix includes a Facebook app that helps users ‘Celebrate the Friendliest Day of the Year.’
At first it appears to be your standard post-on-wall-and-share app. Basically, you are placing a virtual pint of Guinness on your wall and share it with your friends via Facebook and Twitter.
Here is the twist- the way you go about placing the pint on your wall.
After authorizing the app, you are instructed to print up a pdf ‘beer mat’ in color and place it in front of your webcam. This then places a virtual pint on your wall for all to see. There is also a ‘no webcam’ option, which may prove to be the more popular method.
Interesting use of technology. The extra step of printing the pdf may lose a user or two, but all-in-all a pretty cool app concept.
