Absolut recently launched a new augmented reality campaign aimed at giving consumers a visual tour of the Vodka-maker’s Swedish home.
Augmented Reality tags are now being distributed around Absolut bottlenecks and the iOS reader app can be downloaded from the app store. Each tag has two sides. One side, when viewed with the AR app, shows you 3D scenes of the manufacturing process- the fields where the wheat is grown, the distillery, etc. The flip side has a few special drink recipes, when viewed with the app.

Absolut has made the AR tag conveniently downloadable in case you are unable to purchase one of the tagged bottles.
When I saw that Absolut was doing an augmented reality campaign, I got a little excited. They are a company know for their very creative print advertising, so I expected something over the top and unique. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed. I am just not quite sure what value a 3D picture tour of the vodka manufacturing process brings to their product. There really isn’t anything overly innovative about this app.
