Toys “R” Us is a former American toy and baby products retail company. It was founded in 1948 by Charles P. Lazarus and was headquartered in Wayne, New Jersey. Toys “R” Us operated a chain of retail stores that sold toys, video games, dolls, action figures, and other children’s products. The company also had a presence in several international markets.
Toys “R” Us was one of the largest toy retailers in the world, with more than 800 stores in the United States and a presence in more than 30 countries. The company was known for its wide selection of toys and its iconic jingle, “I don’t wanna grow up, I’m a Toys “R” Us kid”.
In 2017, Toys “R” Us filed for bankruptcy amid growing competition from online retailers such as Amazon. The company subsequently announced plans to close all of its U.S. stores and liquidate its assets. While the company’s international operations were sold to various companies, Toys “R” Us ultimately closed all of its stores and ceased operations in the United States in 2018. However, the brand has since been revived and has launched an e-commerce website and several small stores in select locations.
