News Corp is a global media and publishing company that is headquartered in New York City. It is one of the largest media conglomerates in the world, with holdings in newspapers, magazines, book publishing, television broadcasting, and digital media. The company was founded in 1979 by Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch. It began as a single newspaper in Adelaide, Australia, but quickly expanded into other markets through a series of acquisitions and mergers. In 1981, News Corp acquired The Times and The Sunday Times newspapers in the UK, and in 1985 it purchased Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, one of the major Hollywood film studios.Over the years, News Corp continued to grow and diversify its holdings, acquiring additional newspapers and media properties around the world. In 2013, the company split into two separate entities, with News Corp retaining the newspaper and publishing assets, and 21st Century Fox (now owned by Disney) taking control of the film and television properties.Today, News Corp operates a diverse portfolio of media properties, including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, the Times of London, HarperCollins Publishers, and various Australian newspapers. Despite facing challenges in the rapidly changing media landscape, the company remains a major player in the global media industry.
