Here are the most interesting Snapchat statistics and facts available including how many people use snapchat, user demographics, revenue totals and more. I hope you find this helpful and informative.

Snapchat has certainly enjoyed a relatively fast rise to prominence in the digital world. It was launched in 2011 by former Stanford University students Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown as an iOS app originally named Picaboo, but later changed to Snapchat. The premise of the app was always simple- users can take a selfie and make it available for a limited time to the other users they share it with.

Fast forward a few years and what started out as a somewhat obscure mobile network, has gone mainstream in a big way quickly hitting the radar of some of the largest digital firms out there including Facebook, who reportedly offered $3 billion in late 2013, and eventually becoming a publicly traded company called Snap Inc.

Snapchat now stands as a real player in the digital space with well over a hundred million active users, a growing advertising platform and a number of side ventures including producing wearables. Here is all of the Snapchat data you need to know.

  • What is Snapchat?
    • Experience a unique way to share life with friends. Snap a photo or a video, add a caption, and send it to a friend (or maybe a few). They’ll view it, laugh, and then the snap disappears from the screen – unless your friend takes a screenshot! The image might be a little grainy, and you may not look your best, but that’s the point. It’s about the moment, a connection between friends, and not just a pretty picture.
  • What are Snapchat Stories?
    • A Story is a collection of Snaps that play in the order they were taken. You and your friends’ Stories cover the last 24 hours, so you can see the day unfold. (source)
  • What is a Snapchat Trophy?
    • Trophies help mark special achievements you’ve earned by using Snapchat in special ways. You can earn them by earning a certain Score, using certain Filters, sending creative Snaps, and more! (source)

  • The two most popular snapchat stars aren't earning $100,000 per week. The poorly sourced article is literally just bullshit from their ad reps. They could possibly earn that if all they did were paid snapchats, but then they would lose their audience. And having millions of followers mean nothing on Snapchat- it is the amount of opens. If no one opens your snapchat stories -- no one sees your content.

  • Fascinating statistics, thanks for sharing! Snapchat not only makes sense for certain larger businesses, but also for small, local businesses. 77% of college students - is that a U.S. stat?

  • Interesting haha I'm 22 and female but I was never interested in snapchat it just seemed stupid and pointless. People might think oh you just don't understand it no I get it I just think it's idiotic same with posting selfies of yourself in your bathroom every other day.

    • well, about 1% of my snaps are selfies in the bathroom. I agree, a lot of people do that and it's moderately pointless, but not entirely. I mean, it's nice once in a while to receive a selfie snap of a friend who's looking sharp that day to appreciate their handsomeness. Other than that, I mostly use it to post the usual aesthetic and mind-pleasing landscapes and views that I experience in my daily life. A means of sharing my eyesight, perhaps, with my peeps.

It's cool to see what people are up to in a different way to messaging; you know how a very short movie of somebody else's life can say much more than words can :) In a way, Snapchat added innovation to digital communication: it's not all about texts, but instant pics and videos; heck, even filters!

  • No wonder I find no use for it. I'm a 30 year old male that doesn't care for "selfies" lol. Good job with the facts. Very informative.
