Here is my running list of how many people use Paypal, Alipay, Paytm and other ePay platforms. Updated for October 2017 (the best I could find, at least).
This ePay user total list is a subset of my gigantic user total list. The user total list started out modestly back in 2011 and grew very quickly. As digital infiltrates almost every aspect of our daily lives, things become more measurable. It began with a simple listing of how many people use some of the obvious social networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit, Instagram, Pinterest, Skype, YouTube, WhatsApp, VK.com, Odnoklassniki, etc; then grew to include digital services like Amazon, Google, eBay, Netflix, Spotify and Pandora; then the focus turned to APAC social and digital properties like Alibaba, Weibo, WeChat, JD.com, LINE and Momo. The full list now includes close to 1,100 listings and more are added almost weekly. It can be purchased as a downloadable pdf at the end of this post.
Anyways, here is a sampling of the list…
ePay User Totals
How many people use Alipay:
400 million users Last updated 1/31/16
How many people use Paypal:
210 million active accounts Last updated 8/17/17
How many people use Paytm:
200 million users Last updated 2/27/17
How many people use Samsung Pay:
5 million registered users Last updated 4/13/16
Please note that some of these numbers are easier to find than others, so some of these are based on news reports and not official company tallies. All stats are linked to their source unless it was sent to me directly from the company. It is also difficult, at times, to distinguish monthly social media users from total user accounts for many social media. In other words: This is the best I can find, but I don’t guarantee anything.
