Billboard’s New Music Chart Based on Social Media Popularity

Last month, Billboard launched a new way to measure music popularity- a chart based on social media activity.

The Social 50‘s rankings reflect social media statistics like new weekly artist page likes and views, new followers, song streaming, etc. on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, MySpace and iLike.

The Social 50‘s formula and data are provided to Billboard by music intelligence firm The Next Big Sound.
