It’s the season for making educated guesses about what will be big in the world of digital marketing next year. A number of the pundits have weighed in already and here is a brief rundown of what some of them are predicting for 2012:
In advance of their upcoming webinar ‘Key Digital Trends for 2012,’ eMarketer has been the busiest trend-predictor over the past few weeks. They have written a number of articles about what they are expecting to be big next year.
Their digital marketing predictions include:
Clickz weighs in on B2B email trends for 2012. A couple of their predictions are the need for a mobile-friendly email template and creating highly relevant content through data and segmentation.
Promo Magazine takes a look at where each of the top experiential marketing categories will be trending in 2012. A few of the areas of growth they predict are:
- Gamifying promotions
- Staging events in three layers by sandwiching the day-of activities with pre- and post- digital promotions
- Location-based retail
- Social media metrics
- Mobile couponing
- Electronic gift cards
Mobile Marketer is predicting that mobile web will be the mobile rage in 2012. They point to the growth in mobile web commerce and HTML5 web-based apps as a couple of the catalysts for mobile web growth.
No doubt that all of these tactics will play a role in digital marketing, but there are a few that I agree with more than others in terms of calling them trends for 2012. Keep an eye out next week for my own digital marketing prediction post…
