We all get it. No matter if you have 10 followers or 10,000, if you are active on Twitter, you more than likely get sent spam.
Twitter announced tonight that they are getting serious about their spam crackdown. In fact, they are suing a few of the bigger spammers on their platform.

“This morning, we filed suit in federal court in San Francisco against five of the most aggressive tool providers and spammers. With this suit, we’re going straight to the source. By shutting down tool providers, we will prevent other spammers from having these services at their disposal. Further, we hope the suit acts as a deterrent to other spammers, demonstrating the strength of our commitment to keep them off Twitter.”
In the announcement post, they also highlight a few other recent anti-spam measures they have taken including creating their own link shortener and a system for users to report spammers.
It is good to see Twitter taking the subject of spam seriously. It really is getting out of hand. I get a bunch of spam mentions daily and I can only imagine what kind of hell I would be unleashing on my computer if I clicked on any of them. Any reduction would be welcomed.
