Travel guide appmaker eTips recently launched a number of mobile apps that feature augmented reality to add online information to real world landmarks and other venues in large tourist cities.
To help out Olympic attendees get around town this Summer, eTips has included London in its stable of apps. In addition to the super-cool AR guides, the app also includes offline maps, in-depth metro information, customizable itineraries and hotel/restaurant guides.
The app is available for iPhone, iPad and Blackberry. It is interesting that they chose to build a Blackberry version and no Android.
This travel guide app ranks only behind the Muppet Band-Aids on my list of great ideas for AR technology. It is amazing how far mainstream usage of AR has come in just one year. I really like seeing appmakers and brands putting AR technology to use to add real value to their products rather than just creating a wow feature that is superfluous and offers little substance.
