One of these days, celebrities with hundreds of thousands (or millions) of followers will figure out that they are brands and need to treat their social media activity as brand management.
I wrote a piece a while back that suggested that anyone tweeting on behalf of a brand think before they tweet. Well, some celebs haven’t quite caught on yet.
The latest celebrity to Tweet without thinking is Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny who, according to ESPN, tweeted to a teammate: “I don’t wanna be rude mate but you look like a rapist on that picture! lol”, and then “Looking like a rapist/pedofile (sic) isn’t a good thing either”
The tweets didn’t go over well with the media or his 300,000+ followers and Szczesny has since apologized for the tweets.
Why do I feel like Szczesny won’t be the last celeb to put their digital foot in their mouth???
