I can always tell when a new gadget conference is kicking off because the number of pitches in my inbox quadruple. With the Toy Fair going on in New York this week, there has been no shortage of digital toy products being pushed lately. Here is one that caught my eye as I scanned the emails.
TheO™ SmartDisk by Physical Apps is a tabletop hardware/app combination that debuted at the Toy Fair this year. Much like the iPad foosball or iPad Monopoly games that we’ve spotlighted in the past, the SmartDisk combines a creative docking element for with special apps to add an extra dimension to your mobile gaming experience. Your mobile device (Android or iOS, tablet or phone) fits snugly into the SmartDisk and your physical movement (slide, tilt, spin, etc) controls the special corresponding game apps.

The SmartDisk is slated to go on sale in May and will retail for $49.95. A bit pricey, but considering how much we dish out for gaming consoles and controllers these days, 50 bucks isn’t too outrageous.
Here is a little promo for the SmartDisk put out by the manufacturer. The game in the promo is a multi-player labyrinth game in which your ball is controlled by the movement of the disk. There will also be trivia and racing games available at launch.
TheO™ SmartDisk is definitely an interesting concept and something to keep an eye on when it launches in May.
