There are countless donation-for-like Facebook campaigns out there, and most of them are very similar. Macy’s has come up with an interesting way to get users to like their page and share their Facebook app while mixing in cause marketing. The retailer is running a promotion where users can send a Mother’s Day card to all of the moms in their lives and Macy’s will make a $3 donation to a charity for each card.

The “Thank-a-Mom Movement” uses a like-gated (of course) app on which users can select a card style, write a message and send to a mother.
Macy’s will make the $3 donation to one of five pre-selected charities (up to $400,000 total) for each card sent. Users can select which one of the charities they want their donation going to. Here is a quick promotional video that the National Parks Foundation (one of the five charities) put out to get their followers to send cards:
The other four charities involved are Reading is Fundamental, Make-A-Wish, Futures Without Violence and the American Heart Association.
Enjoy the app and Happy Mother’s Day everyone!
