The new app, called HBO GO, will offer movies from their vast catalog, current HBO programming and also a number of older series like The Sopranos, Entourage, Sex and the City and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Unfortunately, much like ESPN’s recent streaming app, there is a catch…
Obviously, the first provision is that you need to be an HBO subscriber, OK fine. Secondly, you must subscribe to one of the participating cable providers- ugh.
Thankfully, HBO’s list of cable providers that their app works for is a bit longer than ESPN’s. According to CNET, the participating providers are: AT&T, Charter, Cox, DirecTV, Dish, Suddenlink, Verizon and Xfinity. That still leaves some HBO subscribers in the dark for now.
I guess the obvious question is: Why not just offer online subscriptions?
So to recap: If you are an HBO subscriber using one of the eight chosen cable providers and have an iPad or iPhone, then you are in luck. The rest of us will have to wait a bit.
