When it comes to creative St Patrick’s Day digital activation Irish beer-maker Guinness never fails us.
In past years, Guinness has used augmented reality and Facebook apps to capture the attention of their customers and reinforce loyalty to the brand. In the digital world, Guinness and St Patrick’s Day pretty much go hand in hand.
This year, Guinness returns to Facebook with their “Paint Your Town Black” campaign that offers it’s fans the opportunity to invite their friends out on the holiday using a personalized movie trailer.

In addition to the movie trailer, Guinness is also luring consumers back to their Facebook after the St Patrick’s Day celebrations wind down to share their best celebration photo by uploading it to the Paint Your Town Black app. Photo submissions will be judged with a trip to Dublin on the line for the winner.
My nominee for thankless job of the month goes to the person at Guinness’ agency that has to go through all those submissions. Seriously, one can only imagine some of the stuff that will be uploaded to that app this weekend.
This isn’t over-the-top creative as far as Facebook brand campaigns go, but enough to keep Guinness top-of-mind for party goers this weekend. Well OK, maybe top-of-mind at the beginning of the weekend and slowly fading as it progresses….
