A little while back, I questioned whether a social TV platform like GetGlue could someday replace the traditional Nielsen ratings system.
The jury is still out on the future of TV ratings, but GetGlue is dabbling in the social TV analytics world more and more. Their latest offering is a pretty interesting infographic that shows the top social tv shows (based on check-in), broken down in various categories.
The lists are pretty interesting. For the most part, with shows like Big Bang Theory, True Blood and Glee topping the list, they lean towards the young and techie crowds. This is fairly predictable, as those are the two groups primed to be GetGlue early adopters.
It will be interesting to see if GetGlue can penetrate the older, and less tech savvy, crowds that don’t stray much past Facebook for their social networking fix. Equally as interesting will be how GetGlue will use the enormous amount of valuable data they collect from user activity to measure TV popularity.
