GetGlue Grows Up and Becomes Credible Measurement Tool

In announcing that the uber-popular CBS sitcom Big Bang Theory crossed the two million check-in mark last night, GetGlue also took a quick time out to brag about their recent growth.

The social TV check-in app, points out in their blog post this morning their partnerships with AdAge and CNN and recent major events like the Grammys, Oscars and Super Bowl.

About a year ago, I wondered if a social TV app like GetGlue could someday replace Nielsen as the gold standard for TV audience measurement. At the time, GetGlue was very small and considered a niche social network. They have grown exponentially over the past year and my Nielsen question doesn’t seem nearly as far-fetched is it had last year.

What do you think? Will TV audience/ratings be measured via social check-ins in the future?

Stay tuned…
