According to Mashable, Frito-Lays just set a Guinness World Record for the most Facebook page likes in a 24 hour period.
Guinness has verified that the chip-maker gained 1,571,161 likes from April 11-12. While the article mentions that rapper Lil Wayne is the record holder for the most likes on a page post in a 24 hour period, it is unclear exactly who previously held the page record, if anyone.
Some of Frito-Lay’s publicity methods in this effort included an experiential marketing event in Times Square and social gaming integration via Farmville.
This is a great idea if your brand has the budget for an undertaking of this size. Besides the publicity this stunt has gained, Frito-Lay now has over 1.5 million more qualified leads to easily market to. With the field getting crowded quickly, likes are getting tougher and tougher to come by which makes this feat even more impressive and valuable.
