Ireland Town is not going over well with the critics in these early days. The game is garnering plenty of publicity, but most of it is not positive.
Most of the criticism of Ireland Town centers on its lack of creativity, its overly cutesy gameplay and its rampant stereotyping of life in Ireland. Here is the game trailer so you can judge for yourself.

One blog said this about the game: “The game, it turns out, might not be the best designed piece of social gaming ever created. First there’s the content, which some have suggested is a little bit stereotypical: farming potatoes, running a pub, and getting destroyed on St. Patrick’s Day. Then there’s the design, which is so overflowing with bubbly happiness that it made us want to stab a stranger in the face just to get it off our clothes.”
Another had this: “Ireland Town is unintentionally hilarious as it is so stuffed full of Irish stereotypes that I was highly disappointed not to see pipe smoking leprechauns springing across the screen trying to guide me through the user interface. The game’s trailer video says it better than I can describe.”
Not a good start for the game. What do you think? Have you tried it? Farmville knock-off? or genius digital marketing for the tourism industry?
