The LinkedIn endorsement feature is less than six months old, but it has quickly become one of the most popular aspects of the social network for professionals.
Since launch, over a billion endorsements have been bestowed upon 58 million of LinkedIn’s 200 million user base. That is a pretty decent adoption rate for a new social network feature.
Users like to hand out endorsements for a few important networking reasons:
- They recognize another user for a job well done
- They get the giver back in front of the recipient which always helps in sales and job searches
- There is generally a reciprocal aspect to endorsements. I would say a majority of endorsements handed out are usually rewarded with an endorsement in return.
Obviously, Users like to receive endorsements because they help position the user as more of an industry thought leader and add a little more topical cred when a potential client, employer or recruiter is checking out the user’s profile looking for prospects or vendors.
To celebrate the billionth endorsement, LinkedIn created this fun infographic. It illustrates a number of factoids about the billion endorsements and what kinds of endorsements are popular on the network.
Enjoy the graphic and feel free to head on over to my LinkedIn profile and hand out a few more endorsements if you are in the giving mood 🙂
