Yes, there are already TV show ‘check-in and share’ apps out there. The defining feature of IntoNow is that, in addition to TV shows, users can also ‘check-in’ to advertisements for participating brands, watch their ad, and then earn a coupon for the product. The app incorporates the audio recognition software to recognize the commercial when it plays on TV and unlocks the coupon.
The app is currently only available for iPhone. It is unclear if/when they will be releasing an Android or Blackberry version.
Pepsi is apparently an early adopter of the app and is offering free Pepsi Max to their commercial viewers.
IntoNow has indexed and recognizes most of the shows and ads on TV, but it seems that the only available coupon right now is for the Pepsi commercial. It will be interesting to see how quickly other brands jump on this concept.
